    Rate your sling or wrap!

    1. Name of child-wearing sling/wrap?

    2. Cost?

    3. Positive and negative aspects?

    4. Would you recommend to a friend?

    Mine are:

    1. We use the Moby Wrap and a Slinglings sling

    2. $35 and $45

    3. The Moby is sooooo cozy and really saves your back since the fabric spreads over both shoulders and your whole back, I can wear it for hours. Also, since the Moby is one piece of fabric everyone in our family can wear baby w/o worrying about ordering a certain size, it fits us all.  The sling is good for being really quick to get on and give him different positions.

    4. I would recommend both but, again, LOVE the Moby and think it's a great value.

Re: Rate your sling or wrap!

    1. Maya Wrap.,.. but have tried NoJo and SleepyWrap

    2. $45, $30, and I got the Sleepy Wrap for $10 in a silent auction

    3. Maya Wrap is comfortable and my sons love being in it. If I was to buy another I'd get a smaller size so the tail would be smaller (it bounces against my knees too much) Another negative is my husband won't wear it.  The NoJo is comfortable but bulky...my husband will wear it but only around the house. The problem with that one though is it was too big for my son to fit in when he was a newborn, but it is easier than the Maya because you pull the tail and it's in place, the Maya you have to pull certain parts of the fabric. The Sleepywrap (like the Moby) I absolutely loved but seem to have gotten too late. My son seems too big for it even though he's not too heavy for it. I need to find it a good home.

    4. Yes, I'd recommend them all, but not without pointing out the stuff I said...

1.) It is called a hotsling

    2.)$40

3.) It is really amazingly comfortable, and it fits a wide range of kids.  Also it is pretty, which I know isn't number one priority but it is nice to look at. there is no excess hanging fabric like other slings I have tried which makes it so much easier to put on, and move in. My has loved it from a couple of days old to now, she is 9 months.  I can't see myself not using it, it has become such a huge part of our life.  The one thing bad I can say is that it is a specific size so my husband can't carry her in it.  I kind of like that though, it means I get her, and he has to wrangle my four and two year old.....haha

4.) I love this sling.  I would tell anyone to buy one, I can't see why anyone would not like this sling.

    1. I'm in Australia. I used first a Hug-a-bub - a huge piece of fabric that can be wrapped several ways, then a Baby Bjorn.

    2. Someone gave me the Hug-a-bub. THe Baby Bjorn was $160 but when we no longer needed it, we were able to sell on eBay for $100.

    3. Hug-a-bub is a huge piece of stretchy fabric you can wear several ways. Positive: it's versatile and flexible and reasonably comfortable for both mum and bub; negative - you need to watch a DVD to work out how to use it; I found it only useful when my baby was very small. Baby Bjorn I didn't feel comfortable using before my bub was about 3mths - it felt unnatural to have him "sitting up" that young, and he would just want to feed when he was in that position anyway. It was great when he was around 4-5mths old but he quickly got too heavy for it after that.

    4. If I were to have another bub I would just get a simple over-one-shoulder, hammock-style sling. There are several available in this style - the cheapest, and probably best I saw were being sold in a market in Byron Bay in a range of fabrics fopr $50. If you're at all handy with a sewing machine you could probably make one yourself.

    1. Ergo and EllaRoo

    2. Both around $100 each

    3. Ergo: Very comfortable, wear front or back, distributes weight well; EllaRoo: Super-comfy, good for my back, wear different ways... only negative is that it can be warm in the summer.

    4. I'd definitely recommend both! The EllaRoo was my favorite carrier when Isa was a year and under, and the Ergo is the best now.

4 yards of organic jersey cotton bought at the fabric store.

I wore it from newborn and I'm still wearing it at 18 months!

Infact, you might want 4 1/2 yards. you could go even longer and pull the baby to your hip when she/he's bigger.

Find the middle of the fabirc and put it around your waist, take each end and throw it over opposite shoudlers,

then take those ends back down around the waist and tie in the back. slip the baby in the front,

it's like the moby wrap but without the moby price!

You can nurse, you can walk and let her nap, you can go see the indigo girls in concert, whatever...

    3. Positive: comfortable, several positions, pretty fabric; Negative: back can get sore after walking for a while.

    4. Yes I really like mine!

    1. Tri-Cotti

    2. Given as a gift

    3. Awesome!  Because it is two peices that cross on your body it provides support to your back while still giving you the closeness and free feeling of a sling.  My daughter slept in so sweetly and would settle right down as soon as I put her inside.  LOVE IT!

    4.) YES!

Re: Rate your sling or wrap!

I make my own carriers now, but I do own a few that I bought

    1. My first one ever was a Mayawrap ring sling from mayawrap.com. Old style shoulder

    2. It was about $50

    3. Like all ring sling - super adjustable, easy on-easy off. The shoulder... well, I love the new shoulder style a lot better and you can't get the old style anymore, unless you buy it used.

    4. Would you recommend to a friend? YES YES YES.

    1. For baby #2 I bought a solarveil ring sling from www.wallababy.com. We love it and use it a lot. My hubby's sling of choise :)

    2. It was only $35 then and it got stolen and I went back and bought another one from her for $30 when she was running a special for return customers.

    3. Like all sv slings - it is awesome for the beach or around the pool. The fabric has sunblocking properties and is really nice to your shoulder :)
Negative would be that is it 100% polyesther and if we were stuck somewhere with no breeze it would get REALLY hot really quick. But if there's wind, you can feel it circulating through the fabric.

    4. Would you recommend to a friend? Most definitly

    1.And with baby #3 I bought a dydomos wrap.

    2. Cost? I payed $80 for a used one, but they are a lot more new

    3. Positive and negative aspects? All positive LOL :) Can wear from birth through whenever and in millions different positions. It's just awesome.

    4. Would you recommend to a friend? Most definitly.

Almost forgot. To fund my dydi I had to sell my Beco that was a present.

    1. Beco Butterfly

    2. I think it was 100+ new

    3. Great for back carries. comes in gorgeous prints.I didn't like the infant insert that makes breastfeeding kinda tricky and I just generally don't like buckles - they are often recalled. I'd rather wrap

    4. Would you recommend to a friend? Depends

Re: Rate your sling or wrap!

    I've had two -

    1. Maya Wrap

    2. Around $50

    3.  My husband and I could both wear it, and my husband seemed to like it for our son.  I didn't love this sling, however.  I always felt insecure that my son was going to fall out!  I know that may just be me though - I gave up on it pretty early because I just couldn't get used to it.

    4. Would you recommend to a friend? - probably not, because of what I said above.

And the second, I just bought about a month ago -

    1. Moby Wrap

    2. $30 used on craigslist

    3. So far, it's all positive.  It's very versatile and flexable, and I've had no trouble figuring out the different ways to wear it (though I haven't put the new baby in it yet! - I'm due in July).  My husband has tried a few of the different positions with our son (now two).  Both of them liked it a lot.  Our son even wants his own to carry his lovey in.  :)  My only concern is that it might be hot this summer?  But it is all cotton, so it should hopefully breathe.

    4. Would you recommend to a friend? So far - YES!

If there's a babywearing group near you, bring your maya wrap there. It is a good sling if you take time to figure it out.
Moby will get hot on a warm summer day :( That's the only downside...
