I had good intentions of using cloth for my baby girl—not only cloth diapers, but also cloth wipes. My resolve didn't stick. So, I opted for the greenest alternatives I could find, knowing that I still was throwing these non-chlorinated varieties into the landfill where they would rot for God knows how many years. (Yes, my eco-conscience still wrestles with this one.) But recently I stumbled upon the first cradle-to-cradle baby wipe available from Elements Naturals. These wipes are made from Ingeo fiber, a man-made material that comes from 100 percent natural (no petroleum, baby!) renewable resources. You won't find any chemicals, chlorine, fragrance, or synthetic preservatives. (In fact, the second ingredient after water is aloe vera.) Plus, they're biodegradable and compostable. (Although don't go tossing them into your house compost; they need to be composted at an industrial facility.) Developed by a mama, and made for mamas, these wipes are super moist and oversized, so you can use fewer. 80 count, $5.95; available at select Whole Foods and Diapers.com.
