Alternative baby bottles and sport containers have literally popped up over night in reaction to the BPA craze. Mindful Mama has been on a search to understand which companies are leading the revolution. Enter thinkbaby and thinksport. They're on the cutting-edge of consumer trends, providing moms with top-of-the-line alternatives to potentially harmful products. All think products are manufactured without dangerous chemicals, such as Bisphenol-A (BPA), which have been shown in laboratory studies to cause hormone disruption, cancer, infertility, obesity and neurological disorders. Although their mission is one we support, what we love about them most is their mantra: Safe doesn't have to be boring. All think products are safe and stylish.
Prior to launching the company, Kevin Brodwick worked in a laboratory funded by the National Institutes of Health, specifically looking at the amount of endocrine disruption emitted from various materials that consumers come into contact with. After receiving pushback from some major bottle companies, Kevin set out to address the issue with his own line of safe, nontoxic bottles. Shortly thereafter, parents began asking for adult drinking bottles, and thus thinksport's insulated bottles were born.
"We target products that we know have the highest potential for release of harmful chemicals. We then ask how we can create a safe alternative. Eco-friendly doesn't mean that it has to be boring, so we also work to create highly functional and elegant solutions," explained Kevin Brodwick. "In the process, we work with leading scientists and testing labs worldwide in the generation of our products. There is a lot of false information in the consumer world that products from one country are safer than another. It's simply not true. There are a lot of U.S. companies producing products full of toxic chemicals and unwilling to change. It's very frustrating, and often quite saddening."
Thinkbaby and thinksport remain focused on bringing a wide range of safe products to market. Today, the line includes BPA-free baby bottles, top-rated sippy cups, a complete BPA-free feeding set, insulated sports bottles and nontoxic yoga mats. The most recent addition to the line is a safe sunscreen. "The sunscreen may appear as a departure from our line, which is almost entirely composed of feeding-type products. But our focus is really about harmful chemicals. We have found a tremendous amount of potentially harmful chemicals in commercial sunscreens, and wanted to do something about it. People forget that skin is their largest organ. Applying sunscreen should be done with the confidence that you're protecting yourself — not only from the sun, but also from toxins."
